Adding one more “laurel” to Aam Aadmi Party “royal” kitty, Amanatullah Khan was arrested in alleged sexual harassment case, on Wednesday.
Aam Aadmi Party’s legislator who was allegedly accused of sexually harassing his sisiter-in-law, a case was filed against Amanatullah on September 10’ 2016 in south-east Delhi’s Jamia Nagar Police station.
A case under IPC sections 354(A)(sexual harassment), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) and 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) was registered against Amanatullah and the woman’s husband.
“We arrested Khan today (Wednesday). We had called him for questioning after his brother-in-law’s wife filed a complaint,” a senior police officer said.
Although, on Sunday the accused AAP MLA went to the jamia nagar police station to get himself arrested but police refused to apprehend him. “We will not arrest him now. Whatever he is doing is of his own accord. We will go by our investigation,” a senior police officer said.
Not believing in the motto “Once bitten twice shy”, Amanatullah had earlier been arrested for allegedly threatening a woman and of attempting to run over the woman with his car.
A case has been registered against the legislator under Sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Jamia Nagar Police Station in south Delhi. As a 35-years-old woman claimed that she had telephoned Amanatullah on July 10 and later went to his Batla House residence to raise the issue of power cuts with him. The minister did not meet her and while she was returning, a youth came out of the house, abused her and threatened that she would be killed if she did not stop politicizing the matter.
However, Amanatullah resorted all claims and was resealed on bail in this case.
